BOM and Critical Spares Readiness
Find the spare parts gaps that could delay a critical repair, and align stocking decisions with equipment risk.
When this helps
When records do not match equipment, suppliers have long lead times, or the storeroom holds parts whose purpose is unclear, maintenance teams can lose valuable time during a failure or outage. This review helps plant, maintenance, storeroom and procurement leaders see where stock and risk do not align.
What the review covers
Working from an existing criticality ranking or an agreed basis for prioritization, KANE reviews a bounded sample of critical assets. The agreed scope may include:
- Whether an approved bill of materials exists for each sampled asset.
- Spot checks of selected parts against records and equipment information.
- Stock levels, reorder points, lead times and sourcing constraints.
- Potential excess or obsolete stock and gaps affecting critical repairs.
What you receive
A prioritized readiness report covering the sample, identified gaps, sourcing and stockout risks, and recommended actions. The plant retains the information and decides which changes to make.
Scope and boundaries
This is an advisory review. It does not include physical inventory counts, purchasing, storeroom management, changes to CMMS master data or building new bills of materials unless separately scoped. The sample and deliverables are confirmed in writing.
Frequently asked questions
Do we need a criticality ranking?
A defensible way to identify the most consequential assets is needed. An existing plant ranking may be used; if none exists, KANE can discuss an appropriate first step.
Will every critical spare be checked?
The engagement examines the sample agreed in the proposal. A wider review can be scoped separately.
