Standards and Technical References

Recognized references provide useful language and methods for making plant decisions more consistent and transparent.

Asset management

The ISO 55000 family addresses asset management principles, management system requirements and application guidance. It connects asset decisions to organizational objectives, risk and value.

Reliability and maintenance

SAE JA1011 sets evaluation criteria for reliability-centered maintenance processes, and JA1012 provides guidance. IEC 60812 addresses failure modes and effects analysis. SMRP best practices can help clarify maintenance measures and definitions; targets should be interpreted in the context of the individual plant.

Asset data and structure

ISO 14224 addresses equipment reliability and maintenance data for the petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries. ISO 15926 addresses lifecycle information for process plants. ISO and IEC 81346 cover structuring principles and reference designations. Relevant ideas may help frame data discussions outside a standard’s primary sector without implying full conformity.

Condition monitoring and electrical maintenance

ISO 13374 addresses condition monitoring and diagnostics data processing. ISO 17359 and the ISO 20816 series provide guidance related to condition monitoring and vibration. NFPA 70B addresses electrical equipment maintenance programs, while NFPA 70E addresses electrical safety in the workplace.

Important clarification

Mention of a standard does not imply certification, accreditation, endorsement, a compliance audit or a guarantee of conformity. Applicable requirements and current editions should be confirmed for the specific facility and jurisdiction.
